Last week Holy Ghost held an open submission exhibition down at New gallery. This was my submission for the event. The piece itself is more of a tool for investigation than a final piece of representation. As my recent work is about exploring our relation to our immediate physical environments, hanging large pieces of colored gel in the gallery became a way to explore the dialogue between the public and the physical space of the building as well as the relationships that occur between different works within a show.

With our Final Degree Show creeping nearer and nearer our year is getting involved in projects to raise money for the show. This week a few of us screen printed thirty t-shirts for the first year anniversary event of a club night held in east London called DUBLE TRUBLE. The image was taken from their flyer for the night and they were kind enough to allow us to sell the t-shirts and put the takings towards getting a catalogue published for our final show.

Kinetica Art Fair 2011

Made it down to the Kinetica Art Fair 2011 yesterday. What a good show!

"While many shy away from the idea of 'universal' concepts or artworks, since its inception Kinetica has sought to exhibit the latest ideas and forms that extend our understanding of the world and engage us collectively and deeply in these ideas that have universal importance and meaning. These works are diverse in style and from, and span (as well as cross over) many disciplines, but all strive towards the concept and artistic expression of our common humanity and the utopian possibility of a 'universal knowledge'. In harnessing universal concepts, many of the artworks make use of the ever increasing creative potentials of technology."

Definitely one of the highlights of the show was Alex Posada's work, 'The Particle'.

With reference to the molecular creation of the earth "The Particle explores these processes of creation and elapsing, evolving from external stimuli represented by the influx of viewers in its nearby vicinity. This breeding ground leads tot he emergence of new forms and behaviors, complex or simple, elapsing or enduring over time. It is a body with its own internal resonance, creating space for sensory and kinesthetic experience. Experimenting with colour, sound and movement, the continuous rotation, speed and alight create visual effects that define the spatial structure of the object.

These light drawings were part of a project where we were asked to go back to the basics of drawing and mark making to create pieces of surface design. Already working with machines and reflections I decided to carry on the process of using light to "print". I took my reflection machine into a studio and did various long exposures allowing the light to draw for me. I used both my digital and film camera but somehow I much prefer the hazy feel of the film photos.

I created this piece about a month ago and its mostly a response to the idea of what a repeat pattern is. Since doing my exchange in Copenhagen in my second year I've been working less and less with "traditional" surface coverings and materials and I wanted to create a piece that represented this. The video contains the basic color and form combination that a normal printed pattern would have and the constant flickering, when played on a loop, has a similar eye catching motion of a printed pattern. Projected on to any surface it would perform the same job as a traditional printed piece, except that it changed over time.

Some friends of mine are running a bar as part of a theater project down in borough. I don't know all the details about the project but I do know the entire place was built out of donated wood. I went down one night to help out in the bar and take a few photos.
